Dance at this school is so enjoyable and fun. The teachers are so kind hearted. Dancing here is one of my favourite things; its not only the dance but the friends that I have made which make it such a welcoming community. Miss Sarah is a fun, bubbly teacher to learn with, and is always trying to improve us to make us the best we can be.

ISTD Modern and Tap Dance
Starting Young
Children can begin their dancing journey with us from as young as 3 years old. At this stage, our nursery classes focus on building confidence, developing rhythm, and encouraging a natural love of movement. These early classes provide a joyful space where little ones can feel free with music, explore movement, and start learning the foundations of dance in a fun and creative way.

The ISTD Syllabus

As children grow, they progress into the ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) syllabus. The ISTD is one of the world’s leading dance examination boards, renowned for its structured training, professional standards, and clear progression routes. This internationally recognised system allows students to develop both their technique and performance skills while gaining qualifications along the way.

The syllabus begins at Pre-Primary, moving through Primary and on to Grades 1–6. From Grade 6 upwards, students can also achieve UCAS points, which contribute towards university applications. After Grade 6, dancers can move into the vocational levels: Intermediate, Advanced 1, and Advanced 2.

Tap with ISTD

Tap is all about rhythm, timing, and musicality. Through the ISTD syllabus, students learn a wide variety of tap steps, beginning with the basics of beats and shuffles, and gradually working towards complex rhythms and choreography. Tap develops a strong sense of timing, coordination, and performance style, making it both technically challenging and hugely enjoyable.

Modern with ISTD

Modern Theatre dance is a versatile and expressive style that blends strength, flexibility, and creativity. Within the ISTD syllabus, students explore exercises that build strong technique, travelling steps across the floor, lyrical work, and dynamic choreography. Modern encourages freedom of movement while also instilling precision, discipline, and artistry. It is an excellent foundation for dancers who wish to perform in theatre, musicals, or contemporary styles.

Students can start ballet classes from 2 1/2 years of age. The pre-school ballet class is designed to develop the students mental and physical development whilst having fun. The class takes a structured approach from the onset and encourages students to progress by learning basic movement patterns and ballet steps whilst using fun props and imaginative stories. Students are encouraged to galop, skip, jump, walk on tip-toes, articulate the feet, demi-plié and so much more, it is amazing how much we get through in a lesson.
